Power shortage is one of the alarming issues in Pakistan. People of Pakistan, industry and all other areas of life are highly effected by the unavailability of electricity here. I have seen many people asking each other that will there be a day in our lives when we will be enjoying electricity 24/7.
Unfortunately, most of the people reply that this is never going to happen or at least not possible in the near future.
But I personally think we can get rid of this issue faster than what one can imagine. This is not an over optimistic idea. Pakistan has the potential to generate hundreds of thousands of megawatts. We have five rivers on which we can build dams that can provide cheap electricity for many coming decades. Other than this, we have a reasonable sandy-areas where sun shines with its full power; solar panels can be a good choice in those areas. Even in most parts of Pakistan, sun shines for most part of the year. If government take some serious steps to promote solar technology and offer some subsidies or some relaxation in taxes and duties, solar panels can be the choice of a large number of people.
One major reason of not being able to resolve this issue yet is the lack of vision and seriousness in our past and present leadership. In fact, in my opinion, this is the most significant reason of not getting this issue resolved until yet.
This is becoming an increasingly popular joke that we are an atomic power yet we are struggling to generate electricity. Although this is a bitter reality but that definitely doesn't mean that we don't have the required expertise or vision as a nation to come out of this crisis.
Another very important point that I don't like to miss out here is the lack of awareness and education in our masses. This lack of awareness is so high that it can be regarded as foolishness sometimes - sorry, but this is true. I am saying this in the scenario of constructing new dams. People of Pakistan are living a miserable life but they are still unable to build a consensus on a single dam - Kala Bagh Dam. Some political parties and local groups are exploiting masses for their personal interests. Other than electricity shortage, the unavailability of dams results in massive destruction because of floods every year. And people of Pakistan do face huge pains every year because of these floods but they are still playing in the hands of cruel politicians and don't really care about their future.
In short, I think, we just need a sincere leadership that have a will and vision to change the life of people of Pakistan by resolving the electricity shortage issue. And if you ask me, I am quite hopeful to see the sincere people coming into powers in near future and if this happens; it will be a real fortune for Pakistan and people of Pakistan.
Unfortunately, most of the people reply that this is never going to happen or at least not possible in the near future.
